When is the work being done:
Construction started Monday,
March 17, 2008 - project is schedule to be
completed by November 2008
The project
will be constructed in three major stages in
order to minimize the impact on traffic,
residents and area businesses.

Stage 1A -
Westbound and
eastbound traffic shifted to north side of
Grand River.
Construction of temporary roadway on
south side and removal of existing curb &
gutter.

Stage 1B - Westbound and
eastbound traffic shifted to south side of
Grand River.
Construction of two-lanes of proposed
pavement and storm sewer on north side.
Construct temporary roadway on
north side to accommodate traffic shift in
stage 2.

Stage 1C -
Closing Pleasant Valley Rd, between I-96 and Grand River (I-96 access ramps
will remain open), and construction of
Pleasant Valley Road (north).
Thirty (30) consecutive day closure
(anticipated in late June / early July).

Stage 2 - Westbound and
eastbound traffic shifted to north side of
Grand River.
Construction of proposed concrete
pavement, retaining walls and storm sewer on
south side. Removal of temporary road
and permanent restoration on south side.

Stage 3 - Westbound and
eastbound traffic shifted to south side of
Grand River using constructed lanes.
Construction of curb & gutter,
removal of temporary road and
permanent restoration on north side.
Impact on traffic:
One westbound and one eastbound lane of traffic shall
be maintained at all time during construction.
At times, various side street intersections and
driveways along Grand River Avenue and Pleasant
Valley Road will be closed and traffic detoured.

Description of work:
This project will include:

Resurfacing Grand River Avenue from the Brighton City
Limits east to the west end of the bridge
over northbound US-23.
-
Widening Grand River Avenue from two lanes
to five lanes from the bridge over
northbound US-23 to 800 feet east of Academy
Drive.
-
Widen Grand River Avenue from two lanes to
four lanes from 800 feet east of Academy
Drive to Richards Drive.
-
Widen Grand River Avenue from two lanes to
three lanes from Richards Drive east through
the intersection with Pleasant Valley Road.
It is anticipated that this project will be
completed by November 2008. However, please be
advised that due to weather conditions, all
dates are tentative and subject to change.
To maintain the safety of road crews,
please reduce speeds and drive cautiously
through work zones. The Road Commission
thanks you in advance for your patience as these
necessary improvements to the County road system
are completed.
Updates:
As of April 16, 2008
Paving of the temporary
roadway on the south side of Grand River is anticipated
being completed today. East and west traffic
should be shifted to the new temporary lanes on
Thursday, April 17, 2008. The contractor hopes to
begin pavement removal on the north side on Friday,
April 18, 2008. **Note: All dates are
projected based on site conditions and weather
permitting and subject to change. Motorist
are advised to except delays and be aware of reduced speed limits in the
construction areas. This projection is
expected to run until the end of the 2008
construction season.
As of April 14, 2008
Within the next 5-7 work days pavement of the temporary
roadway on the south side of Grand River is anticipated
being completed. East and west traffic will be shifted to the new temporary lanes. Construction will begin on the north side. Motorist
are advised to except delays and reduced speed limits in the
construction areas. This projection is
expected to run until the end of the 2008
construction season.
As of March 26, 2008
The East Grand River Reconstruction Project is currently
in "Construction Stage 1A". The contractor
is
working on water, drainage and construction of the
temporary roadway. Motorist are advised to except delays and reduced speed limits in the
construction areas. This projection is
expected to run until the end of the 2008
construction season.
As of March 17, 2008
The Livingston County Road Commission
announced that reconstruction work on
Grand River Avenue between US-23 east of
the City of Brighton and Pleasant Valley
Road was underway. The contractor will begin
working on water, drainage and construction
of the temporary roadway. Motorist were advised to
excepted delays and reduced speed limits in the
construction areas. This projection is
expected to run until the end of the 2008
construction season.
As of December 3, 2007
The Livingston County Road Commission
announced that reconstruction work on
Grand River Avenue between US-23 east of
the City of Brighton and Pleasant Valley
Road was underway with the
relocation of utilities and tree
clearing. Motorist were advised to
excepted delays and be avoided to
area if possible. This projection is
expected to run until the end of the 2008
construction season.
As of March 9, 2007
Road Commission staff provided an update
to township officials and the public on the
Grand River East improvement
projects during a Public Information meeting
on March 6, 2007. The meeting was
