Grand River Project Ahead of Schedule!

grand-river-truck

Pleasant Valley Road will be closed from Grand River to just south of the eastbound I-96 interchange ramp on Wednesday, June 11th.  It will be closed for 30 days in order to widen and raise the grade of the road for safety purposes.  Access to popular venues like the 7-11 and the E.G. Nick’s restaurant will be maintained on Grand River.

Motorists heading to or from I-96 from Grand River should utilize the Kensington Road interchange.  Access to I-96 from north of the freeway will not be affected.

Our contractor, Six-S, Incorporated of Waterford, is approximately 2 weeks ahead of schedule, due to their efficient work efforts and favorable weather for most of April,” said Michael Craine, road commission managing director.  “We hope to maintain that lead through the very challenging phases to come.”

The Pleasant Valley closure is the only long term closure on the project. The intersection will be raised over 2 feet and widened for improved turn lanes.  The grade raise will improve nighttime driving visibility and safety.

The $8.1 million project includes the complete reconstruction of the road base and the placement of a Portland cement concrete (PCC) roadway.  The road will be widened to either 3, 4, or 5 lanes, depending on traffic patterns along its 2.1 mile length.  The limits of PCC reconstruction are northbound US-23 through Pleasant Valley Road.

The existing 5-lane pavement on Grand River between the Brighton city limits and northbound US-23 will be removed and replaced as a part of this project.  The approximately one-half mile section will be milled and overlaid.  There will be some conditioning work done first, including joint repairs and limited curb replacement.

While this project will provide many benefits once completed, it is understandable that road construction can be very frustrating for motorist, commuters, residents and business owners.  The project will be constructed in three major stages in order to minimize the impact on traffic, residents and area businesses.  Every effort will be made to post updates and advisories on a special "East Grand River Project" page as information becomes available.  If you need further assistant please feel free to contact our office at (517) 546-4250, our staff will be happy to answer your questions.

The project will be constructed in three major stages in order to minimize the impact on traffic, residents and area businesses.

  • Stage 1A - Westbound and eastbound traffic shifted to north side of Grand River. Construction of temporary roadway on south side and removal of existing curb & gutter.

  • Stage 1B - Westbound and eastbound traffic shifted to south side of Grand River. Construction of two-lanes of proposed pavement and storm sewer on north side. Construct temporary roadway on north side to accommodate traffic shift in stage 2.

  • Stage 1C - Closing Pleasant Valley Rd, between I-96 and Grand River (I-96 access ramps will remain open), and construction of Pleasant Valley Road (north). Thirty (30) consecutive day closure (anticipated in late June / early July).

  • Stage 2 - Westbound and eastbound traffic shifted to north side of Grand River. Construction of proposed concrete pavement, retaining walls and storm sewer on south side.  Removal of temporary road and permanent restoration on the south side.

  • Stage 3 - Westbound and eastbound traffic shifted to south side of Grand River using constructed lanes. Construction of curb & gutter, removal of temporary road on north side and permanent restoration on north side.
